    WHAT HAPPENED?

United States international Pulisic did enjoy memorable moments during his time at Stamford Bridge, making history in 2021 when becoming the first player from his country to figure in a Champions League final triumph.

Pulisic did, however, face fierce competition for places in west London and was not always guaranteed a starting berth – with injury setbacks also stunting his progress at times. The decision was taken in 2023 to head for Italy, with the 26-year-old posting a personal-best return of 15 goals in his debut season with Milan.

    WHAT GIROUD SAID

World Cup winner Giroud has worked with the American in England and Italy, and the veteran France international striker - who is now in MLS with LAFC - has told CBS Sports of why fortunes have changed for his former team-mate: “I think he has got more trust in his game, more confidence. He plays with more freedom and he’s playing every single game. He’s a very important player for Milan. At Chelsea he was in competition with so many wingers.

“He has settled in really well at Milan, he loves the club and the city. I think he can do a great season this year. He deserves to win a trophy with this massive club. I’m not surprised that he is doing well because last year he really had a good season and surprised me the way that he adapted to Serie A. I spoke to him and congratulated him on a great goal [in Milan’s derby win over Inter]. There is more to come.”

  • WHAT NEXT?

Pulisic was on target as the Rossoneri edged out arch-rivals Inter 2-1 in their most recent outing – with golf pro girlfriend Alexa Melton on hand to witness that occasion. The USMNT star has now registered a goal contribution in five successive games for the first time in his career.
