De Ligt joined his United team-mates at Carrington alongside fellow new arrival Noussair Mazraoui to begin preparations for the 2024-25 season with the Red Devils. The centre-back was seen barking instructions at his new colleagues as they competed in passing and defensive drills.

De Ligt and Mazraoui, who played together under United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, both joined the Old Trafford club in a deal that could cost close to £60 million ($77m) from Bayern Munich this week. The Netherlands international has signed a five-year contract with the club.

The 25-year-old defender will likely be involved when United kickstart their Premier League season with a home game against Fulham on Friday, which will be followed by a trip to Brighton on August 24.
