This forward-thinking measure now proves especially useful ahead of the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup, where participation runs into July. Normally, contracts ending on June 30 would require formal extensions for players to remain eligible for postseason competitions. However, due to the clause, Modric, Vazquez, and Vallejo are legally bound to remain with the club until Real Madrid’s journey in the tournament concludes.
GettyWHAT NEXT FOR REAL MADRID?
Real Madrid's season has been plagued by several injuries and the special clause will at least ensure that the club remains protected from any contractual setbacks. Moreover, with a seasoned campaigner like Modric remaining in the fold, Los Blancos are well-equipped to chase global glory once again.
