VIDEO: 'RefCam' gives fascinating insight into referee Jarred Gillett's point of view of Man Utd thrashing by Crystal Palace in Premier League first

For the first time in the history of the Premier League, a referee wore a video camera to officiate a match as the technology was used during Crystal Palace's mauling of Manchester United on May 6. The head-mounted camera, also known as the 'RefCam', provided an insightful peek into referee Jarred Gillett's point of view during the match and the footage will be used in an educational programme highlighting the role of a referee.

A similar technology was used during a Bundesliga clash earlier this year where German referee Daniel Schlager wore a camera to officiate Eintracht Frankfurt vs Wolfsburg match. This was a one-off occurrence in the current Premier League season that the 'RefCam' was brought into practice.

After officiating United's game at Selhurst Park, Gillett has been named as the VAR for the club's penultimate Premier League game against Newcastle United on Wednesday.
