  • Sterling hails Nkunku
  • Excited to play alongside forward
  • Scored for Chelsea vs Liverpool
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Nkunku, who joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer, has managed to appear in just five matches for the club thus far as he spent the majority of the season on the sidelines, first due to a knee injury and then for a hip problem. He finally returned to action against Liverpool in the club's last match and scored the team's solitary goal in their 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Reds.

English winger Raheem Sterling was excited to welcome back the French star as he felt that they could form a good partnership upfront now that he has finally regained his full fitness.

    WHAT RAHEEM STERLING SAID

Speaking to Sky Sports, the England international said: "It will be massive. I was really excited in pre-season with the type of player he is. I knew I would click really well with him. But again, unfortunate with his injury. Coming back he’ll be a massive boost for us and he’s a player that’s got experience as well. We can’t wait to have him back."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sterling has enjoyed a good run of form in the current season as he has scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 27 matches across all competitions. He is the club's third-highest goalscorer after Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson.
