Newcastle REJECT Liverpool's first official offer for Alexander Isak as Reds step up interest in want-away striker

The Athletic have reported that Newcastle have rejected a formal offer from Liverpool for Alexander Isak after initially fielding informal interest from the Reds. Despite attempts to offer the striker a new contract with a 2026 release clause, Isak remains firm on his desire to leave. Senior players have encouraged him to stay, but the Swede has been training alone in San Sebastian at his former club, Real Sociedad's training ground, while Newcastle tour Asia.

Liverpool view Isak as a long-term option in their attacking line and are prepared to return with an improved offer. Newcastle, while publicly stating the striker is not for sale, are already scouting replacements with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko on their radar. The Magpies remain keen to avoid selling a key asset unless an extraordinary bid arrives this summer.

Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £60m in 2022 and has three years left on his current deal. Despite the Magpies citing a minor injury, reports have his absence from the pre-season tour of Asia is by personal choice amid the transfer saga. Liverpool’s interest was expected to go away after Hugo Ekitike joined from Eintracht Frankfurt; however, Arne Slot and Co. have continued to track the Swede.

Liverpool are expected to return with an improved offer in the coming weeks. Isak’s camp continues to push for a move away from St. James' Park this summer, while Newcastle must decide whether to stand firm or cash in.
