  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Tonali has emerged as a priority target for Juventus ahead of the summer transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Turin giants have a good relationship with Newcastle, after the two clubs did business recently with Lloyd Kelly, and hope to use that to their advantage to land Tonali. Newcastle are thought to want a fee of around €70 million (£50m) for Tonali, but Juventus are hoping to lower their asking price by including Douglas Luiz in a potential deal.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tonali has emerged as a key player this season for Newcastle after returning to action following a lengthy ban for betting offences. The Italy international has developed a great relationship with Bruno Guimaraes and helped the club lift their first silverware in 70 years by winning the Carabao Cup.

Luiz is not the only name in the frame. Dusan Vlahovic could also be offered to Newcastle, particularly if Alexander Isak departs the club this summer. The Swede is believed to be wanted by a host of top clubs after a prolific campaign with Eddie Howe's side.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NEWCASTLE

Newcastle will be hoping to hang on to their top stars in the summer and will be helped if they can secure Champions League football for next season. Howe's side are currently sixth in the table but just two points off fourth place, ahead of Wednesday's Premier League clash with Brentford.
