WHAT HAPPENED?
While Liverpool have presented an offer to extend Salah's contract at Anfield, The Telegraphsuggests that discussions with Saudi representatives are still ongoing. FIFA have introduced a special transfer window between June 1 and June 10, which the Premier League also adopted, allowing clubs an early opportunity to finalise signings. This fuelled expectations that Al-Hilal could secure Salah’s signature in time for the FIFA Club World Cup. However, despite these efforts, Salah is now unlikely to depart before the tournament, which takes place in the United States starting June 14. The SPL had viewed the competition as a key platform to showcase its growing influence, particularly after Neymar’s departure from Al-Hilal. Salah was seen as the perfect marquee signing to fill the Brazilian’s void and boost the league’s global appeal.
DID YOU KNOW?
Despite the interest from Saudi Arabia, Liverpool remain hopeful that Salah’s hunger for records and desire to compete at the highest level will convince him to extend his stay at Anfield. It must be noted that the Liverpool talisman currently sits at 184 Premier League goals, just one strike away from surpassing Sergio Aguero as the league’s all-time top-scoring non-English player.
