Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim admits he could be sacked after struggling to reverse Red Devils’ slump - as Portugese admits it’s a ‘really hard’ job

Amorim, who joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon for a £9.2 million buyout fee, has endured a challenging start. Under his tenure, the team has lost five out of their ten matches, prompting concerns about the manager’s ability to steer the club back on course. His appointment came with high expectations, especially considering United’s decision to pay an additional £900,000 beyond his buyout clause to secure him mid-season. However, the results have fallen short of expectations, with the team struggling to adapt to Amorim’s methods in the limited time available.

Speaking candidly about the situation, Amorim admitted that no manager at Manchester United can afford to feel secure, given the pressures and stakes involved.

"I know the business that I'm in," said Amorim. "The manager of Manchester United can never, no matter what, be comfortable. I know that if we don't win, regardless, if they pay the buyout or not, I know that every manager is in danger. I like that because that is the job, so I understand the question. You can argue that I have been here one month and I’ve had four training (sessions), but we are not winning. That is the reality and I'm quite comfortable with that."

Amorim admitted that the transition has been more difficult than expected but is focused on "the job" - to win matches as quickly as possible.

"There’s no point talking about that or thinking about that. I’m here and have to focus on the job," he added.

"It’s part of football to have these difficult moments. I already knew that was going to be tough. You expect to win more games, to have players with more confidence to sell the idea and to work and improve things. At this moment it's really hard. We have to survive to have time and then to improve the team."

Adding to United’s woes, they will face an in-form Newcastle United on Monday without two key players. Captain Bruno Fernandes will miss the match following his red card in the 2-0 loss to Wolves on Boxing Day, while midfielder Manuel Ugarte is suspended after accumulating his fifth booking of the season. The team’s recent run of three consecutive defeats has only amplified the pressure on Amorim. A victory against Newcastle at Old Trafford would be crucial for regaining momentum and easing the scrutiny surrounding the manager's position.
