  • WHAT HAPPENED?

After being overlooked for England's October internationals, Southgate did not pick Mount for England's final Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia. The 24-year-old has decided to spend his time off in his hometown of Portsmouth. On Thursday, the Manchester United midfielder posted photos of him and his family enjoying a walk at Portchester Castle near the city.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mount's exclusion from the England set-up has coincided with his tricky start to life at Manchester United. Erik ten Hag's side paid £55 million ($68m) to sign the midfielder from Chelsea over the summer, but in recent weeks he has increasingly found himself on the bench. An early season injury certainly didn't help the 24 year old settle into his new surroundings.

  • WHAT MOUNT SAID

Mount accompanied his Instagram post with a simple caption: "Home." After United beat Luton last weekend, the midfielder sent supporters a message that read: "We keep building."

    WHAT NEXT FOR MASON MOUNT?

With United not back in action until Sunday, November 26 when they take on Everton, Mount will likely return to training next week. Until then, he'll enjoy recuperating in his hometown of Portsmouth. In the long-term, he'll look to improve his performances so that he doesn't miss out on England's Euro 2024 squad.
