  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Guardiola admits that Phillips is not going to be playing regularly for City this season and says he "struggles" to see the England international in his side. This season, the ex-Leeds midfielder has played 89 minutes of Premier League football, and 36 minutes in the Champions League. In total, he has made 29 appearances for the treble winners.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Phillips remains a member of Gareth Southgate's England squad, winning 31 caps for his country, but a lack of minutes between now and the end of the season may see him fall out of contention ahead of Euro 2024. As a result, he has been linked with a potential move to Juventus in Serie A.

  • WHAT PEP GUARDIOLA SAID

Speaking ahead of City's fixture against Luton Town this weekend, Guardiola told reporters: "I don’t know what will happen to Kalvin Phillips. He has good character, I’m so sorry I have not picked him. I visualise my team and select a team and I struggle to see him."

    WHAT NEXT FOR PHILLIPS?

One has to think that he desperately needs a move. He is well behind Rodri in the pecking order at City, and needs to keep playing if he is to be involved at the European Championships next summer.
