  • Carragher rules out Liverpool winning title
  • He says Reds have relied too much on late goals
  • Neville backing Arsenal to end City dominance
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Liverpool were overtaken by Arsenal at the top of the table after Sunday's stalemate with United at Anfield, which followed the Gunners' 2-0 win over Brighton earlier in the day. And the former Reds defender was feeling pessimistic about the team's chances of winning their first title since 2020, claiming they have ridden their luck too often with late winning goals.

  • WHAT CARRAGHER SAID

"There are still questions between the top two now. I don't think Liverpool are going to win the league," Carragher said on Sky Sports. "From what I've seen in terms of performances wise it feels like they've had a little bit of luck this season - they had bad luck in the Tottenham game of course - but in terms of someone coming off the bench and winning games late, I'm not sure you can continue to do that."

  • WHAT NEVILLE SAID

"I don't think Liverpool will win the league. I said Arsenal at the start of the season as I anticipated City might have a little drop which is understandable after such a peak last season," said Neville. "They may be too far behind and Arsenal may not do what they did last season which was falter badly. I think it will come down to injuries in the end. Teams are picking up more injuries, if Arsenal keep their players fit they've got an incredible chance of winning the league but you can't rule City out obviously."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

City have won five out of the last six Premier League titles but have won just one of their last six matches and suffered a huge setback when they threw away a two-goal lead to draw with Crystal Palace. Arsenal lead the standings after 17 games, with Liverpool and surprise package Aston Villa one point behind the Gunners. City are five points off the pace.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

No team has ever won the title four years in a row in the entire history of English football. Huddersfield Town, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are the only sides to have won three in a row.
