Gareth Southgate lined up for new job after resigning as England boss - but it's not as a manager

Southgate became England boss in late 2016, taking over from Sam Allardyce after he became embroiled in a third-party ownership scandal. During his time in charge he guided the Three Lions to two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final, making him the best England manager of the 21st century.

England are yet to confirm his successor, however, Southgate already has his next job lined up as per The Daily Mail. The former Aston Villa defender has been tipped to join Match of the Day as a pundit, though the BBC will face competition from ITV for his signature.

The BBC want to have their top broadcaster Gary Lineker and Southgate together for their show after the former heavily criticised the England boss during Euro 2024. Lineker called Southgate 'tactically inept' and went on to label his side 's*it' after their group stage draw against Denmark.

The BBC reportedly wants to snap up the highly popular figure to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their 'Match of the Day' programme as they look to replace Ian Wright for the upcoming season.
