  • WHAT HAPPENED?

TyC Sports report that Mastantuono has told Manchester United officials that he is not yet ready to make a decision on his future, as he waits for the La Liga giants to get in touch. It comes a blow to Ruben Amorim, who had been hoping to snap up one of Argentina's best young prospects as soon as possible.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amorim is hoping to make wholesale changes to his squad this summer as he aims to reverse United's worst ever Premier League campaign. Mastantuano has been targeted as a player who could help with that refresh, but it looks a tough deal to do.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Mastantuono became River Plate's youngest goalscorer at 16 years, five months, and 25 days in February 2024, and has already featured in Argentina's under-17 and under-21 squads. He looks set to be the club's latest academy success, following in the footsteps of recent graduates such as Enzo Fernandez and Julian Alvarez.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED?

Before Amorim can oversee any comings or goings, he has a Europa League semi-final with Athletic Bilbao to navigate. United still have Brentford, West Ham, Chelsea and Aston Villa to play domestically, too.
