The win provides a huge boost to Premier League teams chasing a place in next season's Champions League. Spurs are currently the frontrunners to reap the benefits of the Hammers' win as they are currently fifth in the table, while United are six points behind in sixth. Chelsea, meanwhile, have a long way to climb if they are to be given a place in Europe as they sit 11th in the table, though they could still qualify for the Europa League if they win the FA Cup.

The news may provide Spurs and United extra motivation heading into the final months of the Premier League campaign. The north London team can further strengthen their hold on fifth place with a win against Fulham this weekend, while United are in FA Cup action with a game against Liverpool.
