- Van de Beek left United this summer
- Dutchman struggled at Old Trafford
- Attempting to reignite career with Girona
WHAT HAPPENED?
Van de Beek has opened up on his difficult career at United after leaving the club in the summer. The midfielder moved to Old Trafford in 2020 but was loaned out to Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt after struggling to make an impact, and he left on a permanent deal when he signed for La Liga side Girona in the summer.
GettyWHAT VAN DE BEEK SAID
Van de Beek said to ESPN Netherlands: “I try to enjoy myself again and I do that. It (Girona) is a beautiful club with good football, and I think I can help with that and I am working hard on that. It is clear that nothing has come of it for either party (Manchester United). That is in the past, but not a single bad word about that club. Of course I didn’t play a lot, but I did learn a lot. With good players around me and good people within the club. I will take those things with me into the future.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Despite a horrific spell in Manchester that saw him make just 35 Premier League appearances, Van de Beek - one of the worst signings in the Glazer era - has moved to a club in the Champions League after Girona enjoyed a fine 2023-24 season. Still only 27, it's a seemingly ideal landing spot for the former Ajax man to reignite his career.

A more settled place of work is the dream for the Dutchman and he already seems to be loving life in Spain. He provided an assist on his debut for Girona and will hope to make an appearance against Barcelona on Sunday.
