Darren Bent was speaking on Lord Ping: Red or Black, when he said: "I think Jose Mourinho’s still got it, but he's better as a cup competition manager, rather than a league manager - the last time he won a league was with Chelsea in 2015.
"A team like Newcastle could be perfect. Eddie Howe has done a fantastic job but the Geordies are screaming for success, especially after last season when they finished in the top four and played in the Champions League this season and getting to a cup final last season. They're going to want a trophy and Mourinho is a manager that can come in and quickly do that.
"He won the Europa Conference League last season with Roma and got to another final. In cup competitions, there are few better managers than him, he knows how to get results in a short space of time. He's not the answer for a football club that is looking for a long-term manager, but he gives clubs looking for instant success the best chance of doing that.
"International management might suit Mourinho's style more. Mourinho could be up for international management, even for England."
