    WHAT HAPPENED?

Crooks chose Palmer in his latest BBC Team of the Week for the 21-year-old's two goals in Chelsea's 2-2 draw against 10-man Burnley at Stamford Bridge. But the former Tottenham striker took exception to Palmer's dinked finish from the spot for the opener, especially given the controversial nature of the decision.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Crooks, whose playing career spanned three decades from 1976 until 1990, implied that opponents could consider a panenka penalty to be disrespectful, leading them to dish out their own form of rough justice on the Chelsea star in the future.

    WHAT CROOKS SAID

Crooks said: "The way Palmer dispatched his penalty showed he has supreme confidence in his own ability. But his dinked finish was bordering on 'taking the Michael' and players have a way of dealing with that. If he's not careful he may have his wings clipped."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

A 'Panenka' penalty is so-called after the style of chipped finish in the centre of the goal, often embarrassing a goalkeeper who has committed to a dive one way or the other, was first notably put into practice by Czechoslovakia midfielder Antonin Panenka in the shootout that decided the Euro 1976 final against Germany.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PALMER?

Palmer is only four goals away from reaching 20 in all competitions in his debut season as a Chelsea player. Mauricio Pochettino has already hinted at an overreliance on the youngster and so there will be pressure on him to drag his team into the top half of the Premier League table. He also faces an FA Cup semi-final against former club Manchester City on April 20, with plenty to prove against the team willing to let him go.
