    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Haller had already spent the second half of last season on loan at Utrecht and was able to improve his form. In 18 competitive matches, the 31-year-old scored six goals and provided another assist. Dortmund will no longer receive a transfer fee for Haller, who was signed from Ajax for €31 million (£27m/$36m) in 2022 and is one of the club's top earners with a reported €10m per year. On the contrary, Bild states that Dortmund still have to pay Haller a severance package of around €2m.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Haller's contract expires next summer. However, the Ivorian has had no future at Signal Iduna Park since last season following the arrival of Serhou Guirassy. Rumours that Dortmund are courting Fabio Silva from Wolverhampton Wanderers as a future replacement for Guirassy underscore Haller's tricky situation.

    WHAT'S NEXT?

Now, Haller is returning to where his great career took off. After emerging victorious in his battle with cancer, Haller suffered a slump in form, but is expected to be among the main men at Utrecht next season.
