Set to take over from Erik ten Hag, Amorim will assume his managerial duties at United on November 11, with his contract running through June 2027. The 39-year-old Amorim will become the sixth full-time manager at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amorim’s success at Sporting CP laid a solid foundation for his current role, earning him significant recognition in European football. During his tenure, he led Sporting to two Portuguese league championships, with one ending an 18-year title drought for the club. The United board is banking on Amorim’s track record of overcoming odds and establishing a winning culture, both of which align with the club’s aspirations to recapture its former glory.

  • WHAT PALHINHA SAID

Palhinha expressed admiration for Amorim’s career milestone, calling it a significant achievement and he emphasised his former team-mate and coach's readiness for such a prominent role.

"I wish him all the best," the Bayern midfielder told reporters on Tuesday. "It's a big step for him and he deserves it. As a former team-mate and friend, I wish him all the best and much success."
