  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Miami Dolphins have locked in a key piece of their defensive front, reaching a three-year contract extension with standout defensive tackle Zach Sieler, per his agents via ESPN's Adam Schefter. The new deal not only secures Sieler’s future in Miami—it also makes him the highest-paid defender on the roster.

The extension carries a maximum value of $67.75 million, with $44 million guaranteed, and an eye-popping $22.5 million average annual salary—more than doubling his previous yearly earnings. It's a massive show of faith from the Dolphins, and a well-earned payday for one of their most consistent trench warriors.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sieler's journey with the Miami Dolphins has been nothing short of impressive. Claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens back in 2019, Sieler has blossomed into a cornerstone of the Dolphins’ defensive front. Over the past two seasons, he’s cemented his place as a full-time starter—and in 2023, he delivered a breakout campaign, tallying 55 tackles, 10 sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble. It marked the second consecutive year he hit double digits in sacks, underlining his rise as one of the league's most disruptive interior defenders.

Initially, Sieler inked a three-year extension worth up to $38.65 million in 2023, but after a dominant 2024 showing, Miami doubled down. With Jaelan Phillips sidelined by a knee injury and Bradley Chubb out for the year with a torn ACL, Sieler stepped up as the heart of the defense. He paced the team in sacks (10), QB hits (19), and tackles for loss (13), taking control in the trenches and setting the tone for a unit under pressure.

Unlike many, Sieler has been a full participant in Dolphins training camp despite ongoing contract extension negotiations.

    WHAT NEXT FOR DOLPHINS?

The Dolphins have been busy retooling the defense this offseason, adding Minkah Fitzpatrick to bolster the secondary, signing linebacker K.J. Britt, and using draft picks on defensive tackles Kenneth Grant and Jordan Phillips.

With Sieler’s new deal now signed, sealed, and delivered before the season kicks off, the veteran defensive tackle enters Year 8 knowing his future is secure—and ready to keep wrecking offenses without anything hanging over his head.
