Oregon makes the trip looking to bounce back after suffering its first defeat of the season, a 30–20 loss to Indiana that revealed a few vulnerabilities in what had been a dominant stretch of football.

Rutgers opened the year on a high note with a 3-0 start, but once conference play kicked in, things went south fast. The Scarlet Knights have dropped three straight, most recently taking a 38-19 loss at the hands of Washington.

Oregon vs Rutgers team news & key players

Oregon Ducks team news

Oregon’s offense continues to run through quarterback Dante Moore, who has been as sharp as advertised. He’s completing 72.0% of his throws for 1,396 yards with 15 touchdowns to just three interceptions, showcasing the kind of command that keeps the Ducks among the nation's elite scoring teams at 42.2 points per game, ninth-best in the country. His go-to options include electric freshman Dakorien Moore (335 yards, 2 TDs) and red zone threat Gary Bryant Jr. (234 yards, 4 TDs). On the ground, Oregon spreads the load between Jayden Limar and Jordon Davison, who have combined for over 400 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, giving the Ducks a balanced punch.

Statistically, Oregon sits 23rd in total offense with 464.3 yards per outing, nearly splitting production down the middle between the run (213.0 ypg) and the pass (251.3 ypg). The offensive line has surrendered just seven sacks, and Moore’s ability to escape the pocket has been a big reason why. This week’s objective will be to regain their offensive tempo and clean execution against a Rutgers defense that can be exploited but isn’t afraid to take risks.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights team news

Rutgers comes into Week 8 on a three-game slide but still flashing offensive firepower. Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis turned heads last week despite the loss, and on the season he’s thrown for 1,785 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just three interceptions while completing 66.0% of his passes. His 309.0 passing yards per game rank 13th in the nation, thanks in part to dangerous receivers Ian Strong (537 yards, 2 TDs) and KJ Duff (479 yards, 4 TDs). On the ground, Antwan Raymond has been the spark plug, racking up 560 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, plus 131 receiving yards and another score to his name. Rutgers is putting up 35.7 points per game and boasts one of the more explosive aerial attacks in the Big Ten.

The Scarlet Knights check in at 31st nationally in total offense at 443.8 yards per game, though inconsistency in the run game , just 134.8 yards at 3.6 per carry, has held them back in key moments. They convert 46.1% on third down and an aggressive 68.8% on fourth, showing they won’t hesitate to gamble. Ball security has been a strength, with only three turnovers all year, matching Oregon’s discipline, but issues protecting Kaliakmanis have stalled promising drives. If Rutgers can keep him upright and hit a few big plays out of the gate, they could make this one interesting.
