WHAT HAPPENED? Maddison scored the opening goal in the early stages of the match at West Ham but had to be taken off 25 minutes into the game, with Dennis Praet taking his place.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: The issue occurred just days after it was announced the 25-year-old had been included in the England squad for the World Cup. It had many fearing the worst, with the tournament starting on November 20, although Brendan Rodgers has now allayed those fears.

WHAT THEY SAID?: Rodgers told reporters immediately after the West Ham game: "He's fine. It was just precautionary, a little soreness on the side of the knee. He hasn’t trained a lot this week. He’s okay."

WHAT NEXT FOR MADDISON? It appears to be good news for the Three Lions. It hadn't looked good when Maddison went down and had to be taken off although Rodgers' reassuring words that the substitution was just a precaution will have helped ease fears that Maddison might be at risk of missing the World Cup. Roll on November 21 and England's first game.
