Socceroos squad: Daniel Arzani, Fran Karacic named in Australia's 32-man World Cup group

Daniel Arzani and Fran Karacic are among six additions announced in the 32-man preliminary list of players for Australia's World Cup campaign.

Coach Bert Van Marwijk revealed 19-year-old Melbourne City flyer Arzani and 21-year-old Croatian based right-back Karacic would be part of the initial squad for Russia at a press conference in Sydney on Monday.

Van Marwijk explained why Arzani missed his last squad and revealed he will take him to Russia if he can have an impact off the bench in games.

"[Arzani's] been playing. Before March he didn't play many games. Now I have a lot of information," Van Marwijk said.

"I have extra information. I spoke to coaches. He's a young player, he has to learn a lot. But he can make a difference.

"If he can make a difference in the last 10 minutes, I will not hesitate [to pick him]."

Karacic is the squad bolter, having been capped as a Croatia junior and only emerging as a potential option in the past few weeks.

With a lack of right-back options in the squad, Van Marwijk said his scouting team had identified the Croatian-born defender as someone who can step into the breach.

"He is playing in the highest division in Croatia. He is already the captain. He plays only right back," he said.

"I didn't see him myself. The information came from [assistant coach] Ante Milicic.

"We don't have a lot of choices for the right back position. He is one of them."

The other changes from the green-and-gold' squad that played friendlies against Norway and Colombia in March are the inclusions of strikers Jamie Maclaren and Apostolos Giannou, left-back Alex Gersbach and goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak.

Tim Cahill was selected despite limited game time for Championship side Millwall, while Trent Sainsbury and Matt Jurman are both expected to be fit after not featuring March.

The group will be cut for 26 on May 14 before the final selection of 23 players will be announced following Australia's June 9 friendly against Hungary in Budapest.

Australia have been drawn into World Cup group C alongside France, Peru and Denmark.

Their first match will be against France on June 16 in Kazan.
