  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    It has been revealed that a hearing into the charges levelled against City, which number between 115 and 130, came to a close on December 6 after nearly three months of legal arguments being heard at London’s International Dispute Resolution Centre.

    The reigning champions of England are now waiting to discover whether any action will be taken against them, and how severe any punishments will be. There has been plenty of talk regarding points penalties, transfer embargoes and potential demotion out of the Premier League.

    According to The Times, the three-man panel in charge of delivering a verdict intend to reach a judgement “as soon as possible”. It is claimed that an announcement could be made by the end of January 2025, although complexities in the case may lead to delays.

    It is also claimed that appeals from City could lead to a protracted saga being extended by “six to eight months”, with any sanctions – including relegation out of the top tier - being put on hold until the appeals process has been completed.

    With that in mind, and with costs on both sides of an intriguing legal battle continuing to mount, City would appear to be some way off lifting the clouds of uncertainty that continue to hang over the Etihad Stadium and provide an unwelcome distraction.
