    WHAT HAPPENED?

U.S. international Josh Sargent scored two of Norwich's four goals in a 4-2 win over Stoke, taking his tally to 11 goals on the season. His first of the game broke a 1-1 deadlock, with Sargent netting just three minutes into the second half. He added his second in the 71st, effectively putting the game to bed by making it 3-1.

With the two goals, Sargent has scored seven goals across his last seven games, with Saturday marking his second brace during that run. He's failed to score in only one game during that span.

Sargent's goalscoring run comes after injuries derailed the final weeks of 2024 for him. He missed all of November and December due to injury, returning in January and swiftly kicking off this incredible run of form.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sargent's flurry of goals come at the perfect time for the U.S. men's national team, who head into March's CONCACAF Nations League short-handed due to several key injuries up top. Ricardo Pepi is set to miss several months after recently undergoing surgery, while Folarin Balogun is not expected to return from a shoulder injury in time to join camp next month.

The starting No. 9 duties will almost certainly fall to Sargent, who will no doubt head to camp with confidence high given this recent run of form. There are, however, still four Championship matches for Sargent between Saturday's win and the start of USMNT camp.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SARGENT?

With the win, Norwich move to ninth in the table, and they still have a chance to push for a promotion playoff spot. The Canaries are four points behind sixth-place Blackburn Rovers for that final playoff berth. Coincidentally, their next match will come against Blackburn next weekend in what will feel like a do-or-die day for Sargent and Co.
