The 17-year-old pulled off an incredible trick for one of his goals. Botafogo's failed attempt to clear a free-kick fell to the forward, who controlled it with his knee, teeing it up perfectly for him to fire into the back of the net from the edge of the box.

That was not the only staggering piece of skill from the Palmeiras academy graduate that helped spark the sensational comeback.

With Botafogo 3-0 up, the game looked like it over with by half-time, but Endrick got onto the ball in the middle of the opponents' half early in the second period and went on a fantastic run through the defence and buried his team's first goal.

A turnaround still looked impossible for Palmeiras as the half wore on, but after 84 minutes he smashed in his awesome effort from the edge of the box. Five minutes later, Palmeiras were level and then the Sao Paulo team stole the three points with a 99th minute goal from centre-back Murilo.

Endrick has long been seen as one of world football's future stars. He is already destined to end up at Real Madrid as the Spanish giants have agreed to pay €60 million (£52m/$64m) to Palmeiras for him. He will make the move to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2024, when he turns 18.

His goals against Botafogo took his tally up to seven in Serie A this season. The victory sees Palmeiras move three points behind Botafogo, who are top of the table.

Botafogo's collapse sparked a wild reaction from owner John Textor on television after the game. Highlighting the red card shown to Adreylson, he said: "The whole world saw it, this is not a red card. He (Adryelson) got the ball first. I’m not even sure if it was a foul. But it’s not a red card, he changed the game. This is corruption, this is theft."

The Botafogo president may face some punishment for his claims, but in the meantime his team will hope to maintain their lead at the top of the table when they take on Vasco while Palmeiras face Athletico Paranaense.
