  • WHAT HAPPENED?

PSV's perfect start in Eredivisie has come to an end after Ajax beat the league leaders 3-2, a match where U.S. international Malik Tillman's costly error cosigned the winner for the home side.

PSV, the defending Dutch champions, were the better side statistically in this fixture and opened the match with a 1-0 lead thanks to Luuk de Jong's opener in the 18th minute. Davy Klaassen would respond with the equalizer for Ajax in the 43rd minute.

De Godenzonen would take over in the second half though. After Ivan Perisic and Kian Fitz-Jim traded goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half, Ajax would capitalize on an errant pass from Tillman to score what would be the game-deciding goal from Mika Godts. The American immediately covered with his face with his kit after the mistake.

Fellow U.S. international Ricardo Pepi was brought on late to chase the equalizer but Ajax would hold on for a massive result.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This was PSV's first true test of the season and Peter Bosz's side looked shaky throughout the contest. The team will now need to regroup after winning its first 10 matches of the season prior to this setback. Despite De Lampen's impressive start, Ajax now sit just five points behind the team and have a game in hand. By comparison, PSV finished 35 points ahead of fifth-placed Ajax last season.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Ajax historically have been Eredivisie's favored team, winning 36 titles in their history. PSV have the second most wins with 25.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR PSV?

PSV will look to regroup in their Champions League fixture against La Liga side Girona on Tuesday. They will play one more match prior to the international break in a league contest against NAC on Nov. 9.
