    WHAT HAPPENED?

It wasn't pretty, but U.S. international Brenden Aaronson and his club Leeds remain on top of the English Championship after a 0-0 draw against Burnley Monday.

Aaronson connected on 79 percent of his passes, including one key pass and a dribble in a contest that featured minimal chances between either team. Former Houston Texans superstar J.J. Watt is one of the owners of Burnley, who sit third in the league standings after the match. Had Burnley won, they would have been tied on points with Leeds after 29 matches.

Aaronson and the Whites sit at 60 points.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Leeds' lead over the table has been cut to just two points over trailing Sheffield United and three over Burnley. The first two spots in the Championship get automatic promotion into the Premier League -- the most lucrative league in soccer.

If Leeds fall out of the top two spots, it would have to play in the EFL Championship Playoffs, a high-stakes tournament for the No. 3-6 seeds in the table.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Burnley are aiming for a quick return to the Premier League after being relegated last season. This is Leeds second season in the Championship after being relegated in 2023.
