    WHAT EFL PUNDIT SAID

West Midlands native and EFL pundit Lee Hendrie has told Football League World: “Listen, I think they’ve established what they needed this season in League One, squad-wise and squad depth. And now they’re going to have to step that up.

“I do feel that they have got good players that can step right into the Championship, for sure. But be-all and end-all, I think if they want to go again, which I’m sure they will do, their owners are looking to further things on where they want to get into the Premier League.

“I think that they will have to invest and bring that little bit more quality that can certainly stand them a chance in the Championship. So, they will have to spend money and I’m sure they will do, having the season they’ve had.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR BIRMINGHAM CITY?

Birmingham also reached the EFL Trophy final in 2024-25, giving them a day out at Wembley, but suffered defeat to Peterborough United with silverware up for grabs. They have four games left to take in this season before attention turns to squad building again.
