Son made his final appearance for Spurs during a friendly with Newcastle on Sunday and was given applause from the fans in attendance at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul. The South Korean icon also received hugs and a guard of honour from both sets of players and was spotted in tears when he took his place on the bench.

Son confirmed ahead of the game he has asked to call time on his Spurs career after spending ten years in north London, with a move to Major League Soccer with LAFC reportedly on the cards. It's already a summer of change for the Europa League holders after Thomas Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou as manager and the 33-year-old has admitted he needs a change of scenery and a new challenge after helping Tottenham end their 17-year trophy drought.

Son arrived at Tottenham in 2015 and established himself as an important team member under former boss Mauricio Pochettino after a quiet first season. He went on to develop an incredible strike partnership with Harry Kane before the England star moved to Bayern Munich and was made captain by Postecoglou for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.

LAFC looks like the most likely next destination for Son. The MLS side is already the home to former Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who moved to California last year, while major stars like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have relocated to the United States in recent years.
