'Let's get spending properly!' - Rob McElhenney gets Wrexham fans excited with 'honest' message after Championship promotion

Hollywood actor McElhenney quipped that he doesn't know what the word consolidation means, after Wrexham secured their third promotion in as many years.

He wrote on X: "If I'm being honest, I don't even know what the word 'consolidation' means," which prompted a hefty response on social media.

@JouMoore tweeted: "Usually used when someone doesn't believe that the next step up is achievable, thankfully I don't think @Wrexham_AFC has ever suffered from a lack of ambition."

@neilhay3s commented: “Consolidation” - when a team gets promoted, but feels a bit (or a lot) daunted about the next season, is a term the manager, players and fans say they are aiming for when hoping for the best * * excludes Wrexham as there’s no Welsh translation of the word."

@fearlessidzine wrote: "I told @thehumphreyker the exact same at the start of the season...he wasn't having it though!"

@Sheepshagger28 put: "Let's get spending properly now and aim for the playoffs, Ipswich could do it... why can't Wrexham do it?"

Wrexham made history with their latest promotion, an achievement that has taken them to within one division of the Premier League. But preparing for life in the Championship will be their biggest challenge yet and statement signings, and transfer exits, may need to be made to survive.

Before Wrexham can get spending, so to speak, they round off their League One season against Lincoln City on Saturday.
