Revealed: Man Utd players growing 'weary' of Erik ten Hag repeating instructions during hour-long tactical sessions

The Red Devils are seeing questions asked of their Dutch coach during a 2023-24 campaign that has seen consistency prove hard to come by. Ten Hag delivered Carabao Cup glory last season, but the FA Cup provides his only route to silverware 12 months on.

According to The Athletic, Tottenham passed up the opportunity to appoint Ten Hag as successor to Jose Mourinho in 2021 due to concerns over his communication skills, with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo acquired instead.

Familiar issues have surfaced at Old Trafford, despite United having bought into Ten Hag’s meticulous approach to coaching when handing him their reins in 2022. The Athletic claims that those methods are grating on certain players, with instructions often repeated over and over despite being relatively straightforward.

Some of Ten Hag’s tactical sessions are said to run close to an hour, with players – many of whom also consider English to be a second language – losing concentration. That may explain why United are finding it difficult to perform as a fully functioning unit on a regular basis this season.
