Revealed: Chelsea wanted to hire Jurgen Klopp during Roman Abramovich era - but departing Liverpool boss refused to work under Russian oligarch

Klopp joined Liverpool in 2015 after a successful spell at Borussia Dortmund. Then-Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich tried to lure the coach to west London, The Athletic reports, but Klopp was turned off by the Blues owner's tendency to fire managers after a short period of time.

Klopp announced on Friday that he will step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season. The Reds boss joined the club in 2015 and has helped lead the club to success in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League among others.

Klopp has come up against Chelsea 22 times since he arrived at Anfield and his side have emerged victorious nine times. The teams have played out a draw on nine occasions while Chelsea have beaten Klopp's team four times.

Klopp and his Liverpool side will take on Norwich in the FA Cup on Sunday. Three days later, he will hope to make it 10 wins against the Blues when they host them at Anfield in the Premier League.
