Several factors have influenced this change in direction. Firstly, the impending departure of Nacho Fernandez, a stalwart in Real Madrid's defence for over a decade, has prompted the need for a centre-back. Nacho's decision to leave the club at the end of the season has been communicated to the board, necessitating proactive measures to bolster the backline. Additionally, an untimely injury to David Alaba in December has raised concerns about the Austrian's fitness, with his return to peak condition not expected until at least October.
Considering these factors, Real Madrid have allegedly cooled their interest in Davies. While the Canadian winger remains highly regarded at Valdebebas, Madrid's pursuit of his signature has been put on hold pending developments in other areas of the squad. Although a verbal agreement was reportedly reached between the club and player months ago, Davies' potential arrival now hinges on Ferland Mendy's potential departure or until he becomes a free agent next year.
GOALWHAT NEXT?
With crucial decisions looming, including potential departures and arrivals, the club is poised for a transformative offseason as they seek to reinforce their squad ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Kylian Mbappe is almost considered a done deal and it remains to be seen who joins him at the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of the new season.
