    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Negotiations gained momentum earlier this week, specifically on Tuesday, the day Barcelona faced Brest in the Champions League. Sporting director Deco sat down with his agent Hector Peris at noon to discuss fresh terms and the progress made during these talks has fuelled optimism within the club.

  • WHAT PEDRI SAID

Following Barcelona’s match against Brest, Pedri was asked about his contract renewal. While he did not reveal any specific details, he reaffirmed his desire to remain at the club for the long term.

“I don’t know anything, but I always say that I’m doing very well here and I’ll talk to my agent," he told reporters.

“There are still many years ahead of me, but I have always said that this is the club where I want to stay forever. I don’t know anything about today’s meeting.”

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Pedri’s journey with Barcelona began in 2020, and he last renewed his contract in 2021. In just three years, the Tegueste-born midfielder has evolved into one of the most highly regarded players in world football and the club recognises him as a future leader on and off the pitch. The club is also happy with his physical progress following a spate of injuries, as he has been following a tailor-made plan by Julio Tous, which has further spurred the management to open negotiations for an extension.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PEDRI?

Offering Pedri a status that matches his value to the team is a significant step toward creating a competitive and cohesive squad. However, it remains to be seen if the financial challenges that Barcelona have faced in recent years pose a hurdle. The midfielder will be back in action on Saturday against his boyhood club Las Palmas at home.
