That is according to The Times, who report that discussions regarding the 22-year-old’s future will soon be opened with the Madrid-based team. Getafe, who have seen Greenwood impress while on their books in 2023-24, intend to form part of that process.

United are expected to sanction another switch for Greenwood in the summer window, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe leaving a return door open at Old Trafford, with a fresh start being embraced by the one-cap England international.

Greenwood is said to have attracted interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid after catching the eye in La Liga this season, but Getafe are understandably keen to keep him around. There is willingness on their part to discuss a permanent deal, according to The Times, although another loan agreement is considered to be the simpler solution.

It remains to be seen whether United would be willing to sanction another loan, as they will want to bring in funds for a player that remains under contract until 2025. Greenwood has not played for the Red Devils since January 2022 following his arrest on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, with those charges being dropped in February 2023 as he was freed to resume his professional career.
