  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The Red Devils completed the signing of Yoro this summer for a reported fee of £52 million ($68m). However, the French sensation suffered an injury to his metatarsal during their friendly against Arsenal and has been sidelined for close to three months after undergoing surgery.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    As per The Athletic, United had found out about the issue with Yoro's metatarsal during their medical check-up of the Frenchman before the completion of the transfer. Regardless, the Red Devils were keen to move forward with the signing of Yoro because of his standing as one of Europe's hottest prospects.

    Man United were also keen to complete the transfer for Yoro as they believed Real Madrid could beat them to the signing of the 18-year-old. Los Blancos had been one of the clubs interested in the services of the Frenchman but were offering Lille a much lower fee for the defender. As such, it was reported that the Ligue 1 side were keen for United to be the club that signs Yoro.

    Luckily for Erik ten Hag, who was likely looking to have Yoro as a starter, United also completed the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and will have the Dutchman available to compete for a starting spot.
