    WHAT HAPPENED?

Robertson was captaining his country on Tuesday night at Hampden Park, with the hosts going 1-0 down in the 32nd minute thanks to a goal from his Anfield team-mate Conor Bradley. Shortly after that strike, Robertson slumped down to the floor, using his shirt to cover his face, and it soon became clear that his night was over.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Just before his withdrawal, Robertson had been left holding his ankle following a coming together with Northern Ireland defender Trai Hume. Although he could carry his own weight as he trudged down the tunnel, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will still be sweating over his fitness.

    DID YOU KNOW?

The Reds have been far from full strength all season, especially in defence. Although things have improved on that front somewhat lately, Ibrahima Konate and Trent Alexander-Arnold missed their side's last game before the international break - a dramatic FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester United - while Joel Matip is out for the season.

    WHAT NEXT?

If Robertson's injury is significant, he could miss Liverpool's Premier League clash with Brighton on Sunday. After that the Reds host Sheffield United, with a trip to Old Trafford and a Europa League showdown against Atalanta also on the horizon.
