Listed: Every player to score a Premier League hat trick on Boxing Day after Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood comes back to haunt Newcastle

Not only did the striker's treble consign his former team to their fourth Premier League defeat in five matches, but it saw him replicate a feat achieved by the likes of Thierry Henry, Robbie Fowler and Gareth Bale.

Wood is just the seventh player to have scored a hat-trick in a Boxing Day match in the Premier League as he helped deliver Forest's first victory under new coach Nuno Espirito Santo and provide them a much-needed boost in their bid for Premier League safety.

As the New Zealand star glows following his clinical display against the Magpies, GOAL takes a look at all of the players who managed to net three goals in a Premier League game on December 26.

On Boxing Day in 2000, Henry gifted Arsenal a fantastic festive period when he struck three times against Leicester at Highbury. The French superstar opened the scoring for Arsene Wenger's team before going on to add two more goals later in the game.

He even provided assists for Patrick Vieira for the second goal and for Tony Adams, who rounded the scoring off in the 90th minute. The win kept Arsenal second in the league behind Manchester United and they ended up finishing runners-up.

At the same time Henry was putting in a sensational display for Arsenal, Sunderland hero Kevin Phillips was smashing in a hat-trick of his own. The eight-time England international scored three times in the second half of the Black Cats' visit to Bradford as they ran out 4-1 winners.

His gallant efforts impressed the king of rock 'n' roll as an Elvis Presley impersonator ran on to worship him. The striker's efforts lifted Sunderland up to third in the Premier League table as Bradford stayed bottom of the table and ended up being relegated.

On just his sixth Premier League match for Leeds after his £12 million transfer from Liverpool, Robbie Fowler put in a magnificent performance to seal three points from their meeting with Bolton in 2001.

It took just two minutes for the forward to put his team in the lead and after 16 minutes he had doubled the advantage. He then rounded things off in the final moments of the game with a third as they ran out 3-0 winners.

A whole 10 years went by since Fowler's awesome display before the Premier League saw another Boxing Day hat-trick. It was Dimitar Berbatov who next popped up with a festive treble, doing so for Manchester United in 2011.

The Bulgarian forward had been given a limited role in the 2011-12 season despite scoring 20 Premier League goals in the previous campaign for Sir Alex Ferguson's team. Nevertheless, he popped up to deliver the goods by netting three times as the Red Devils won 5-0 against Wigan. He ended the season with seven goals from just 12 appearances in the top-flight.

  • Gareth Bale Tottenham 2012Getty

Wales winger Gareth Bale provided plenty of joy for Tottenham fans in his final full season at the club before joining Real Madrid. One of the standout performances was against Aston Villa on Boxing Day 2012.

The game was a tight one for a long time as it remained goalless until Jermain Defoe broke the deadlock just before the hour mark. Four minutes later, Bale added a second and then chipped in with two more to kill the game off.

Five years after Bale's brilliance, another Spurs superstar struck thrice on Boxing Day. Kane had just scored a hat-trick three days earlier as Tottenham won 3-0 at Burnley and he went on to make it six goals in two matches when his side faced Southampton.

Kane netted twice to give his team a two-goal lead inside 40 minutes and then added his third and Tottenham's fifth in the 67th minute. Spurs, then coached by Mauricio Pochettino, went on to win 5-2. That game saw him beat Alan Shearer's 36-goal record for the most Premier League goals scored in a calendar year.

  • Chris Wood Nottingham Forest 2023-24Getty

Newcastle hoped they were on their way to a win at St James' Park when Alexander Isak converted a penalty to put them ahead against struggling Nottingham Forest. Chris Wood had other ideas, though, as he pulled his team level on the stroke of half time.

He went on to haunt his former team in the second period, too, as he put Forest ahead after 53 minutes and then added a third on the hour mark as the visitors took home a much-needed three points.
