Kylian Mbappe's Club World Cup debut in serious doubt! Forward misses Real Madrid training with fever ahead of tournament opener against Al-Hilal

Mbappe is in danger of missing Real Madrid's first match at the Club World Cup after he was absent from training on Tuesday due to a fever. El Chiringuito report the France captain was not spotted among the first-team squad as they went through their preparations for their tournament opener against Al-Hilal and there are now concerns he may not be available.

New manager Xabi Alonso already has a few fitness issues to concern himself before his first official game in charge. Defenders Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy were included in their traveling squad but have to be monitored carefully after suffering serious injuries last season, while Eduardo Camavinga and Endrick have taken knocks in the past few months.

Madrid are one of the favourites for the Club World Cup trophy and are in Group H alongside Al-Hilal, Pachuca and Salzburg. There could be official debuts in the pipeline for Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who have arrived from Premier League sides Bournemouth and Liverpool respectively.

Mbappe will hope to shake off his illness in time to play at the Hard Rock Stadium as Madrid look to make a commanding opening statement. The likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have already secured big wins and will provide the Spaniards with tough competition for the trophy.
