Javier Aguirre’s Mexico squad set to close out 2025 with November friendly against Paraguay in San Antonio

Paraguay is a familiar rival for Mexico, with the two national teams having played 21 times. El Tri holds the edge with 11 wins, while Paraguay has five victories, and there have been five draws. Their most recent clash came in 2022, when La Albirroja earned a 1-0 victory.

With the announcement, Mexico now has its full calendar locked in for the final two FIFA windows of 2025. In October, Aguirre’s side will face Colombia and Ecuador, while November will bring matchups against Uruguay and Paraguay. These games are expected to feature a squad much closer to what Aguirre envisions for the 2026 World Cup.

Paraguay, meanwhile, already secured qualification for the tournament earlier this month, marking their ninth appearance on the global stage. They will arrive led by Atlanta United forward Miguel Almirón, who spearheads the new generation of Paraguayan talent aiming to make an impact in North America.

Ranked 43rd in the FIFA standings, Paraguay will be looking to test themselves against a Mexico side sitting at No. 13. Despite the gap in rankings, the friendly is expected to be a meaningful test for both teams.

This will also mark El Tri’s return to San Antonio after several years away - their last appearance in the Alamodome came in September 2019.
