Harry Kane’s stunning start at Bayern Munich ‘not surprising’ as England boss Gareth Southgate ‘expected’ big things following Tottenham switch

Since his switch to the Bavarian side from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, Kane has barely looked like a newcomer to the German first tier as he has gotten going from the beginning and has broken two Bundesliga records so far and is now equal for the most goals scored in a Bundesliga debut campaign with 24 goals.

Speaking at the Nations League draw, Southgate said [via The Mirror]: “I would have expected that. Again, the club are delighted to have him. Bayern Munich is one of the biggest clubs in the world. You have to win every week. It's really important for him. That's going to be a tight title run-in by the looks of it. Nothing he is doing is surprising me but it's good to see him in form.”

Southgate is the most successful manager for the Three Lions since Sir Alf Ramsey, who won the World Cup in 1966. Since then, England has failed to win a single major men's trophy but Southgate will be hoping Kane's scintillating form helps the Three Lions win Euro 2024 in the summer.

The 30-year-old will next be in action in the crucial clash between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, February 10. He will reunite with Southgate during the March international break when they take on Brazil and Belgium.
