'Gutted!' - Wrexham striker Paul Mullin sends emotional message after being ruled out of North America tour for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side

The Red Dragons have revealed that their talismanic frontman underwent surgery in June to correct long-standing lower back and hamstring problems. He is now well on the road to recovery, but will play no part in a series of pre-season friendlies.

Mullin suffered a punctured lung during Wrexham’s last trip across the Atlantic in 2023, with a nasty collision with Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop forcing him to miss the start of another promotion-winning campaign.

He will be unavailable to Phil Parkinson when Wrexham face Bournemouth, Chelsea and the Vancouver Whitecaps, with the 29-year-old posting on social media as he continues to work on rebuilding his fitness: “Gutted to be missing the tour. But I couldn’t go any longer. Op is all done getting right for the coming season is now the focus! BRB - thanks for the messages.”

Mullin passed the 100-goal mark for Wrexham last season, as he helped to deliver back-to-back promotions for Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. His focus is now locked on making a 2024-25 League One opener against Wycombe on August 10.
