'Got to come in' - Gary Neville pleads with Gareth Southgate to make THREE changes to England team for Euro 2024 last-16 clash with Slovakia

The Three Lions are set to face Slovakia in the round of 16 after topping their group. Yet, the performances in the group stages have caused concern among England fans and pundits. Neville has been a particularly vocal critic of England this tournament and believes Southgate, after three languid displays, needs to shake his team up by bringing in Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kobbie Mainoo and Cole Palmer for Kyle Walker, Conor Gallagher and Bukayo Saka, respectively.

Speaking on his Stick to Football podcast, Neville explained: "Trent gives us a better use of the ball from the back and gives us some sort of a threat with his assists and set-pieces. Mainoo gets us playing. We saw that the other night.

"Then I think Palmer at the moment... I would have started [Phil] Foden, [Jude] Bellingham and Saka, 100 per cent, with [Harry] Kane [at the start of the tournament]. They are the front four that everyone would have chosen.

"But Palmer's looked so effortless. He just looks like he's got that little bit of something. I'm uncomfortable with any of them being left out. I don't know which it would need to be, maybe Saka. I'm uncomfortable leaving Saka out just purely because he's a brilliant player as well."

England have been disappointing so far in the European Championship and many expect, and demand, Southgate to ring the changes ahead of the next round. The England boss has struggled to fit all of his star players into a free-flowing side and may have to drop one of his big-name players. Kobbie Mainoo came on and impressed for England in their previous outing, placing him in strong contention to start. Meanwhile, Palmer flickered when he was brought on against Slovenia, but the attack remained blunt. Southgate has a number of key decisions to make.

Should England see off the threat of Slovakia on Sunday, they will face the winner of Saturday's game between Italy and Switzerland. The Three Lions can consider themselves fortunate to be on the 'easier' side of the draw, avoiding favourites Germany, Spain, France and Portugal.
