Panic strikes during FC Twente friendly as scaffolding collapses and players are forced to help supporters

The incident occurred just before the practice match was scheduled to begin, causing widespread panic among the attendees. The scaffolding, which was part of an atmospheric campaign, suddenly gave way, causing a large banner to fall onto the supporters below. Images shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by Ronnie Meijer showed the dramatic moment when the banner descended from a crane, trapping many people underneath.

Music was immediately stopped as the severity of the incident became clear. According to journalist Leon ten Voorde, the players on the field sprang into action to assist the fans caught in the collapse.

RTV Oost reported that approximately ten individuals were injured in the incident. The response from emergency services was swift as an air ambulance and additional support from the fire brigade arrived shortly.

Given the gravity of the situation, the decision was made to cancel the match. This decision came after discussions with the local authorities, ensuring the safety of all participants and attendees was prioritized.
