FC Dallas reportedly trades USMNT striker Jesus Ferreira to the Seattle Sounders in blockbuster $2M GAM deal

The Seattle Sounders have made a blockbuster move to acquire Jesus Ferreira from FC Dallas in a reported deal that sends $2 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) and winger Leo Chu to Dallas.

Ferreira, who has scored 53 goals in 163 appearances during his time in Dallas, should bring a much-needed scoring boost for Seattle. The Sounders had the league's best defense last year, conceding a league-low 35 goals, but struggled to score throughout the season with just 51 goals.

FC Dallas gets a substantial amount of GAM funds in return and a promising young winger in Chu, who is 24 and made 15 appearances last season.

Seattle may have won the MLS Cup had it done better at converting its chances last season. The club had the Galaxy on the ropes during the 2024 Western Conference final but couldn't convert to put LA away.

Ferreira, if healthy and motivated, could do that. The 24-year-old was once considered one of the strongest prospects in MLS and had an MVP caliber season in 2022 with 18 goals. He was also on the 2022 World Cup roster.

Since then, injuries and poor form have affected his stock. He scored just five goals last year and appeared to be seeing a fresh start as a transfer to Spartak Moscow collapsed as MLS wouldn't negotiate with Russian clubs due to the Ukraine-Russia war.

Now with Seattle, one of MLS's consistent contenders, the hope is Ferreira will benefit from a culture change.

Ferreira is the son of former MLS superstar David Ferreira. Elder Ferreira won MLS MVP in 2010.

The striker has reportedly accepted a new contract with Seattle and will head to the Pacific Northwest ahead of training camp.
