Ten Hag was celebrating being named Premier League Manager of the Month on Friday but had little to cheer on Saturday as his Manchester United team were embarrassed at home by Bournemouth. The Cherries ran out deserved 3-0 winners to inflict a seventh Premier League defeat of the season on Manchester United. Lineker was quick to suggest the result could spell the end of the road for Ten Hag at Old Trafford despite his recent accolade.

Lineker wrote on X: "Has anyone ever won manager of the month and lost their job in the same weekend?"

Saturday's result is another setback for United after a promising 2-1 win over Chelsea in midweek. The Dutchman is now facing a daunting run of fixtures, with Bayern Munich up next in a must-win Champions League clash. The Red Devils then head to Anfield to take on bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League. United will need no reminding they lost 7-0 to the Reds on Merseyside back in March, and will be without captain Bruno Fernandes for the match due to suspension.

Manchester United have now lost more home Premier League matches since Sir Alex Ferguson retired than they did during his entire 21 seasons in charge.

Ten Hag needs a quick response from his players ahead of Tuesday's visit from Bayern. The Bavarians head to Old Trafford having already made it through to the last 16 but fresh from a dismal 5-1 thrashing by Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. United must beat Bayern and hope Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw in the group's other game to progress to the last 16.
