    WHAT HAPPENED?

Tempers threatened to boil over during the interval of a Premier League clash in the West Midlands. Said contest saw former Villa star Grealish return to his old stomping ground, on what would become another forgettable afternoon for out-of-sorts City.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Villa led 1-0 at half-time courtesy of a Jhon Duran strike, and Grealish was less than impressed at the lack of stoppage-time added on by the match officials. The England international then became involved in a feisty discussion with World Cup winner Martinez as both made their way from the field.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

A video shot by a supporter in the crowd shows Martinez and Grealish heading back to the dressing rooms. Villa’s Argentine keeper can be heard saying “you think you’re a big boy now, huh” as angry words are exchanged, before coaching staff step in to separate the feuding duo.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Villa went on to win the game in question 2-1, as City saw their sorry slump extended to one win in 12. Grealish's every touch was booed by fans that once idolised him, leading to the 29-year-old holding three fingers up to the crowd as he made a point of referencing how many Premier League titles he has won since leaving his boyhood club for £100 million ($126m) in 2021.
