Christian Pulisic feels 'freedom and trust' at AC Milan as USMNT hero explains why he's scoring more goals than he ever did at Chelsea

Pulisic has stated that the “freedom and trust” he receives at AC Milan has contributed directly to his improved goal output, surpassing his totals at Chelsea. Pulisic scored 17 goals for Milan in the 2024-25 season, more than his three seasons at Chelsea combined (15). The American attacker highlighted the importance of support from team-mates, coaches, and fans as key to his form. He attributed Allegri’s new approach at Milan to a more positive squad environment and focused on hard work and consistency in both training and matches.

Pulisic has become a vital figure at Milan, earning recognition as the club’s top scorer. His integration has included a growing tactical awareness in Serie A and noticeable improvement in decision-making, particularly with finishing and key passes. Pulisic’s 17-goal season is not only his personal best but also marks him as the first Milan player since Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score 15 or more goals in each of his first two seasons at the club. With 32 goals in two years, he has helped set a new standard for American players in Serie A competition. The resurgence stands in stark contrast to his final seasons at Chelsea, where he struggled for regular minutes and comfort within the squad.

Reflecting on his improved goal record, Pulisic said told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Here at Milan, I've been given freedom from the start, and I feel the trust in me from everyone: from my teammates to the coach, from the directors to the fans. By acquiring me, the club has given me a great opportunity, and I have a duty to improve every year, to work hard to always take a step forward in terms of performance. If things go well, it won't be a surprise to me, given what I do both during the year and in preseason to be 100% and give everything I can."

Asked if he feels more at home at Milan than at Chelsea, he said: "That's true, although it's easier to say after having scored so many goals (32, ed.) in the last two seasons. I'm having a lot of fun at Milan and I want to continue on this path, pushing as hard as I can."

Pulisic and Milan will focus on securing a Champions League place for the 2025-26 season. Preseason preparations continue under Massimiliano Allegri, with an emphasis on defensive improvement and integrating new signings such as Luka Modric for further experience and leadership. Pulisic aims to maintain his upward trajectory in front of goal and contribute in multiple positions, ready to push for domestic and European success. He also has an eye on preparations for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, aiming to arrive at the tournament in peak form.
